Part Two

This is part two of yesterdays post, which was too long and I was too tired to finish at the time, apologies. I also apologise in advance for not being able to construct coherent sentences...

I thought I should write a bit about seeing Laura Marling at the Southampton Guildhall (third time!) which as always, was lovely. Although she is very sweet and endearing and her voice is always amazing to listen to, I don't think anything could ever beat seeing her at Winchester cathedral. The setting of the cathedral was perfect, a really unique setting for a concert, especially as it has always been one of my favourite places in Winchester. I've met great people there, had first kisses there, explored the secret gardens and waited for work to be over. The acoustics, as you can imagine, were phenomenal and the whole atmosphere was actually a little chilling, but this just seemed to add to the music. I actually went to have a proper look inside the cathedral at the weekend and never realised how big it was! Biggest nave in Europe apparently, for anyone who is interested... Anyway, I'm talking about the wrong concert now, but basically Miss Marling blew me away once again. I was equally happy at the time because I had just purchased 109 more tealights (only enough for four weeks apparently...) and a little mouse called Beanie.

I thought I had a lot more to speak about but I've completely forgotten now...instead, have some more music I've been listening to lately..

All New People

Afternoon,

I know I said last time that I would be better at this blog, but this time I really mean it. Not very much has been happening lately that I feel like writing about, apart from the previously mentioned beautiful weekend. Saturday the 25th February - possibly one of the best days I have had in a very long time.

The day started off leaving at 7am to go to London Fashion Weekend at Somerset House. I was really excited to go seeing as I missed it last year, and always really love looking at the new fashion and being really envious of the people who can afford it. It was slightly smaller than it usually is but I think it made up for it in terms of quality! Personal favourites exhibiting included Antipodium (loads of beautiful sheer, pale dresses and shirts), Holly Fulton (Just incredible pieces, see pictures!!), Underwear designer whose name I can't remember (beautiful high wasited frilly, silk and lace pieces), Kusmi Tea (yum), Vintage Moschino (amazing patterns and colours that I always love), sample sales from Cheap Monday, and this really great designer who I had never heard of but whose name I have forgotten argh (black dresses with jangly bits). I also kept coming across stalls with some amazing vintage (expensive) sunglasses, and am kicking myself for not noting down some of the more memorable bits. There was also a jewellery brand which was equally amazing two years ago, called Les Nereides (store in covent garden I think) with really quirky unusual pieces, including necklaces with tiny dolls, glitter and eyeballs on them... Unfortunately I can't remember many of the designers (awful memory) but there were some lovely things and a lot of it was surprisingly afforable. I was even happier to come away with my own Antipodium dress :) It's pale pink, midi and sheer with a high collar and a caterpillar print - I'll hopefully remember to post photos soon. I also got attacked by a very camp man spritzing a juicy couture perfume by the door (Viva la Juicy) and I'm not a fan of Juicy Couture at all usually but this perfume was just loverrrrly. mmmmmm. I'm going to try and root around for the designers cards and leaflets and try and get back to you with the names!

Eeeeee!!

After leaving London Fashion Weekend after about two hours, I had to rush off to Leicester Square. For the best reason ever. Really. It was the day of Zach Braff's play that Izzy had booked tickets for, 'All New People'. It was a really small theatre but this actually made it feel much nicer, and the play itself was just great. I love Zach Braff's writing and he had once again outdone himself, 'All New People' was very very funny but also with some really interesting and unique thoughtful parts, some great one liners too. I really loved 'Garden State' and I think the play had a very similar style. The mixture of projecting film onto screens as well as the live actors was a really different idea and worked extremely well. One of my favourite lines that left me thinking for a good while after was, 'Don't worry, in 100 years there will be all new people'. The idea that in about one hundred years every single person on this Earth will be different is really strange to me. Anyway, highly recommend the play if you get a chance to see it. Now for the best part - MEETING ZACH BRAFF. Thats right (see picture haha). We queued by the stage door afterwards and he just walked out, as if he was a normal human being! It was so wonderful, he's really lovely and sweet and signed our tickets and posed with us for a photo :) One of the best moments ever. We sat down on the pavement after and cried. I'm not exaggerating, Izzy literally had tears pouring down her face. And a few moments later we saw him skip across the street infront of us too (like actually skip)..

After this busy busy morning I then met a friend for dinner, dashed home and had another friend over for Mario kart and a half-viewing of 'Eight legged freaks'. One of the best days I've had in a really long time.

I'm writing this quite a bit later and would normally post the song I am listening to at the time, but I believe at the time I was listening to this...
It's 'This Sweet Love' by James Yuill (fell in love after seeing it in the DM advert with Agnes Dean)

I've got lots more to say but not much energy left to say it with, so I will hopefully continue tomorrow.
Night xo

I haven't blogged in a really long time because a lot of stuff has happened, but I have a wonderful weekend planned and will hopefully be able to share more about it in a few days (if it does go according to plan that is!) x

New Years

Ps. following on from the post I made two seconds ago, I forgot to post my New Years outfit! The gold dress magically turned up for Christmas and I was so full of happy. This is the only photo of me where you can fully see it, it's not the best photo but oh well
and a slightly better one my mum took on her phone before I left :)

Winter blues

I apologise for being beyond awful with this blog lately, I've had horrible amounts of work has been doing!
I am starting to think I have S.A.D too, January just makes me feel really funny and unmotivated and lazy and the weather makes me miserable...talk about your winter blues.

So, a lot of stuff has been happening lately. I've been spending a lot of time (although not as much as I should have...) writing an essay for a Visual Culture module, I chose to write about the film 'Cache' (Hidden) by Michael Haneke. Although I never want to see the film again as long as I live, if you don't have to write an essay about it I highly recommend it! Haneke is this completed twisted, yet wonderful auteur director and although I hadn't actually heard of many of his films, they all seem pretty great so far.

What else? I can't remember how I've been spending my time! Oh, a highlight of the Christmas holidays was getting to go to Heston's 'Dinner' restaurant in Knightsbridge with my dad. Both appreciators of ANY sort of food but this was just something else - I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant which was as posh as this one, but it was an amazing experience! The restaurant itself was just beautiful, particularly with the open glass wine storage and glass kitchen where you could see the chefs making all the fancy dishes.

My dad and I shared Heston's famous 'Meat Fruit' dish for starters. Being weirdly obsessed with him, I already knew what to expect... out came a plate with what appeared to be an orange on it - stalk, skin, texture, everything...but when cut open it is full of a meat pate! The orange skin was some sort of sweet glaze, and it just tasted beautiful together. I forgot to take a picture before it was cut open but enjoy:

And for my main course I had steak with marrowbone, and triple cooked chips - best chips I have ever tasted! My dad had duck of some sort which also tasted wonderful. I've started to become such a food snob... And then below is a photo of me having the 'chocolate bar' dessert - chocolate fondant with passion fruit puree and ginger ice cream! Need I say more...

After this, I met up with one of my old friends Louis and we visited the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. It's always a massive rip off and hugely tacky, but I love looking at all the colours and big crowds.
Here he is standing with some festive chickens...

Not too much else has been going, aside from the Christmas festivities! My Christmas was nice this year, I also got some lovely presents which I'll take photos of and post when I'm not feeling so lazy/worn out! I've also been spending a lot of time with my friends at the pub, I try to see as much of them as possible when I go back home. Now, however, I have come back to Winchester to do work and i'm going to be alone in the house for a few days more. I thought I would hate it but so far it's been okay, though I have been spending a lot of time at my friend Liss' house so strictly speaking I haven't reaaaally been alone.

And before I forget, here is a photo of my friend Jude (and my hair) from back in August I believe, when we visited the Tracy Emin exhibition. The exhibition itself was really amazing, I'm not usually a fan of hers so didn't go in with high expectations but I was really impressed by her work, and found it a lot more emotive than I have done in the past. Anyway, on our way out we were asked by a group of people to write what we wanted right now. The exhibition was called 'Love is what you want', and well, at that exact moment all I really wanted was a piece of banana cake. Easy to please clearly! For some reason they didn't put up the photo of my banana cake drawing, I can't imagine why...

I remember that being a really lovely day, when i'm away from home I miss London so much.

I think that is pretty much all I have to say for now, but enjoy some festive cupcakes!
I hope your Christmas's and New Years brought in wonderful treats like this for you as well:

These are two of my favourite people. I am sad that Zooey and Gibbard split up (also one of my favourite people... but I would love it if these two got together!)

And to finish, here is a song I have been listening to non-stop the past couple of days (from the 500 Days of Summer soundtrack, one of my favourite films). I know it's quite a sad song but i've been feeling quite funny lately, and I guess being alone in an empty house can give you a strange sort of cabin fever...
On that note, have a spectacular week full of the upmost merriment! x
